Patek Philippe
Originally introduced in 1976, the Nautilus stands as an emblematic milestone in horological history, as it pioneered the concept of a luxury sports watch crafted from steel. Drawing inspiration from the captivating world of Jules Verne’s literary masterpiece, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” Gerald Genta designed the Nautilus, combining elegance with maritime allure.
The Nautilus’s design narrative is deeply rooted in the world of seafaring, taking inspiration from the portholes of transatlantic vessels and sporting a rounded octagonal shaped bezel, boasting a water resistance of up to 60 meters.
This reference, 5712A, features a fully integrated stainless-steel bracelet and its proportions, 40mm x 8.52mm, give it an understated and sleek look.
Fitted with a distinctive black-blue, horizontally embossed dial with ten applied luminous hour markers in 18K white gold. The dial showcases a power reserve indicator at 10 o’clock, a 360 date indicator complementing the moon phase display between 6 and 9 o’clock, and a running seconds sub-dial found at 4 o’clock.
Powering the Nautilus is the Patek Philippe automatic calibre 240, providing a power reserve of 48 hours when fully wound, which was rather impressive for a micro-rotor back then. The movement is composed of 265 parts and features 29 jewels. Its predecessor, ref. 3712A, featured the then prestigious “Poiçon de Genève” seal, while the current ref. 5712A showcases Patek Philippe’s own seal.
