This 38mm platinum Octa Réserve de Marche, double digit serial number 06X-01A confirms that this particular example is an extremely early production piece. The importance of the Octa Réserve de Marche

Originally introduced in 2001 as the brands first automatic movement, the calibre 1300, is arguably one of F. P. Journe’s most important calibres made to date. At the time delivering 120 hours of chronometric performance from a single barrel was simply unheard of, the use of a unique 1-metre mainspring was responsible for this technical achievement. The overall thickness of the mainspring was just 1mm allowing for the overall calibre dimensions to remain relatively thin. Today, the entire Octa Collection is powered by the calibre 1300 and retains the exact same proportions 30mm diameter and 5.7mm thickness.

A dial like no other

This 38mm platinum F. P. Journe Octa Réserve de Marche features a textured ‘grainy’ vibrant shimmery yellow gold dial. The chameleon-like dial is able to transform itself from strong hues of shimmery rich yellow to dark brownish gold, these dials are usually only found on early brass examples. The dial also shows signs of consistent patina found around the screw heads as well as the bell-shaped frame, this example essentially acts as a time capsule and could be deemed a ‘vintage’ F. P. Journe today. Upon request, the dial can be thoroughly cleaned by F. P. Journe and we ultimately leave that up to the discretion of the next owner of this remarkable timepiece.

The separate silvery guilloché dial for the hours, minutes and seconds would be best described as creamy white, often giving off a two-tone look due to the contrasting matt guilloché. The stark contrast of the blue steeled hands is a trait found on F. P. Journes apart from boutique editions. The dial is signed F. P. Journe – Invenit et Fecit Latin for invented and made and features a 120-hour power reserve scale.

The Movement

As is the case with all references found within the Octa Collection, when fully wound the indicator would read ‘120’ and as the power reserve gradually runs down the indicator would display how many hours of power are left.

The meter-long mainspring supplies an average 850 gr of torque, limiting the loss in balance amplitude to 25% over the five-day period. Beyond that time, the watch will continue to go for another day or two, but the amplitude loss no longer guarantees precision timekeeping.

What makes this particular example all the more special is the brass movement decorated with straight Côtes de Genève which was only in production for the first batch of movements circa 2001. From our knowledge, there are only a handful of such examples and we are proud to offer such an example.

The Set

The set comes with the petite classical two tier wooden box along with its original warranty card and user manual. The warranty card is dated from 2001, once again confirming the importance of this remarkable piece. The watch was recently serviced and comes with an additional one year warranty from our platform.
